A Cat Called Dom (15)

A Cat Called Dom

Real life and fiction blur in this heartfelt, award-winning fusion of animation and documentary filmmaking.

A Cat Called Dom details filmmaker Will Anderson’s relationship with his mother and their journey following the diagnosis of her cancer. Whilst alone, Will privately keeps council with an animated cat called Dom - a curious character living inside his computer screen who interjects with observations, questions and actions that shed a light on Will’s feelings to a darkly humorous and often poignant effect.

We follow Will as he juggles the pressures of filmmaking whilst coming to terms with a potential earth shattering loss, causing tension with his creative collaborator transforming the film into something different from what was originally intended.

“An ingenious experiment in filmmaking as therapy.” - The Skinny

Winner of the Powell & Pressburger award for best feature at the 75th Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Fremont (12A)

Fremont

Donya, a young Afghan who moved to Fremont, California after serving as a translator for the American army, spends her days working at a fortune cookie factory and her nights wide awake battling between her desire to rebuild her life and the overbearing guilt she carries within. In a bid to connect with the world, she sends an unconventional message through a fortune cookie.

Tinged with Jarmuschian deadpan humour, this sensitive immigrant tale packs a breakout performance by real-life refugee Anaita Wali Zada, joined by a perpetually off-kilter Gregg Turkington and Jeremy Allen White from The Bear as a heartthrob mechanic.

"Fremont is truly one of the most special movies to come out of Sundance Film Festival this year" - Movie Web

“Winningly reminiscent of the mid-80s US indie cinema of Jarmusch and Hartley”

The Old Oak (15)

The Old Oak

IT’S NOT WHERE YOU’RE FROM, IT’S WHAT YOU BRING.

The Old Oak is a special place to the working class community of County Durham, a once thriving mining town that after 30 years of decline has fallen on hard times. As the last pub standing and the only remaining public space for the community to meet landlord TJ Ballantyne (Dave Turner), is hanging on to the pub by his fingertips.

Tensions quickly rise when the pub becomes contested territory after the sudden arrival of Syrian refugees. An unlikely friendship begins between TJ and curious young Syrian Yara. Together they look for a way to bring the two communities together.

So unfolds a deeply moving drama about their fragilities and hopes. Another unmissable social realist parable from director Ken Loach.

"Ken Loach’s fierce final call for compassion and solidarity."

Theater Camp (12A)

Theater Camp

After the indomitable and beloved founder of a scrappy theatre camp in upstate New York falls into a coma, the eccentric staff must band together with her clueless “crypto-bro” son to keep the thespian paradise afloat.

This delightfully silly mockumentary calls back to the camp cult classic, Wet Hot American Summer and has a definite Christoper Guest influence, (This is Spinal Tap, Best in Show).

Packed with jokes and brimming with new talent. Starring Molly Gordon (Booksmart, The Bear)  - who also co-directs, Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect), Patti Harrison (I Think You Should Leave), Ayo Edibiri (The Bear), and Amy Sedaris (The Mandalorian).

One of the more unique comedies to hit cinema screens in a while, you don’t have to be a theatre kid to give this charming, upbeat, and warm production a standing ovation.

"The film that has made me laugh by far the most – at times so helplessly I slid out of my seat – since the end of the pandemic."

- ★★★★★ The Telegraph

"This joyous mockumentary is the funniest film in years."

- ★★★★★ Digital Spy
