Synopsis

Experience the history of Tynedale on the big screen on this unmissable programme from the vaults of the North East Film Archive.

Part of the archive’s North East On Film project and presented by the archive team here at the Forum, this fascinating selection features footage of Hexham Market in the 1960s, the delightful travelogue ‘A River Speaks’ in which English actress and star of stage and screen Flora Robson takes us on a nostalgic journey along the Tyne, promotional film ‘Northumberland – A New Life’, which follows the Randall family as they relocate to Hexham from the south of England in the 1970s, and we go behind the scenes at the Hexham Courant in 1976, following the news team as they report the daily life of Hexhamshire.

All this and more in this programme featuring familiar places - and maybe even faces – from the archive’s precious collection.  Don’t miss it!

This screening is part of North East Film Archive’s major new project NORTH EAST ON FILM. The project will re-connect the people and communities of the region with their film heritage and providing important glimpses into our history through special screenings, events and online collections.
