All and Nothing

All And Nothing is a documentary about Li Yuan-chia, a Chinese-born conceptual artist. In 1971, he restored a derelict farmhouse on Hadrian's Wall and opened the L.Y.C. Museum & Gallery, which became an internationally recognised creative hub exhibiting over 300 artists, including Andy Goldsworthy, David Nash and Bill Woodrow. The local community knew him simply as the "Chinaman"

The film traces Li's journey from wartime China through Taiwan, postwar Milan and Bologna, and Swinging Sixties London, before he settled in rural Cumbria. Drawing on his diaries, personal recordings and the memories of those who knew him, it explores how a singular vision, in an unlikely place, shaped a community for generations.
