The Departed (18)

The Departed

Action packed thriller set in Boston, where a long-simmering hostility between the police department and an Irish-American is primed to explode. The fuse is lit when a gangster (Matt Damon) is chosen to infiltrate the police force--and a young cop (Leonardo DiCaprio) goes undercover within the gang. Now, when the two moles uncover each other's identity, the battle begins.

2023 still holds some major movie magic and among our most anticipated are Ridley Scott’s NAPOLEON, and Martin Scorsese’s KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON.

As we await these new releases our Forum Film Club will be looking back into the catalogue of the two cinema maestros.

Out of the many Marty and Leo collaborations this is one of our favourites and is the only film Martin Scorsese has won the Academy Award for Best Director. It also took home Best Picture, Best Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Each film will be followed by an optional free to attend discussion in our cinema bar. Forum Film Club screenings are open to all and no signing up is required. All you have to do is book a ticket, come along, and enjoy meeting with likeminded cinema lovers!

The Great Escaper (12A)

The Great Escaper

INSPIRED BY A TRUE LOVE STORY.

In the summer of 2014, a World War II veteran sneaks out of his care home to attend the 70th anniversary commemoration of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

From the BAFTA-nominated director of Dad’s Army and the BAFTA-nominated writer of Made In Dagenham, the film explores the story behind the headlines, a celebration of love and a sincere exploration of the traumas of war.

The film also reunites British screen legends Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson, who last appeared on screen together almost 50 years ago in Joseph Losey’s 1975 classic The Romantic Englishwoman. The pair — both two-time Oscar winners with 10 nominations between them — shine in this extraordinary story that reminds us not to waste a second of our lives.

The Old Oak (15)

The Old Oak

IT’S NOT WHERE YOU’RE FROM, IT’S WHAT YOU BRING.

The Old Oak is a special place to the working class community of County Durham, a once thriving mining town that after 30 years of decline has fallen on hard times. As the last pub standing and the only remaining public space for the community to meet landlord TJ Ballantyne (Dave Turner), is hanging on to the pub by his fingertips.

Tensions quickly rise when the pub becomes contested territory after the sudden arrival of Syrian refugees. An unlikely friendship begins between TJ and curious young Syrian Yara. Together they look for a way to bring the two communities together.

So unfolds a deeply moving drama about their fragilities and hopes. Another unmissable social realist parable from director Ken Loach.

"Ken Loach’s fierce final call for compassion and solidarity."

Theater Camp (12A)

Theater Camp

After the indomitable and beloved founder of a scrappy theatre camp in upstate New York falls into a coma, the eccentric staff must band together with her clueless “crypto-bro” son to keep the thespian paradise afloat.

This delightfully silly mockumentary calls back to the camp cult classic, Wet Hot American Summer and has a definite Christoper Guest influence, (This is Spinal Tap, Best in Show).

Packed with jokes and brimming with new talent. Starring Molly Gordon (Booksmart, The Bear)  - who also co-directs, Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect), Patti Harrison (I Think You Should Leave), Ayo Edibiri (The Bear), and Amy Sedaris (The Mandalorian).

One of the more unique comedies to hit cinema screens in a while, you don’t have to be a theatre kid to give this charming, upbeat, and warm production a standing ovation.

"The film that has made me laugh by far the most – at times so helplessly I slid out of my seat – since the end of the pandemic."

- ★★★★★ The Telegraph

"This joyous mockumentary is the funniest film in years."

- ★★★★★ Digital Spy
