2024 Oscar Nominated Live Action Shorts

This special release features the year's most spectacular short films, all nominated for best live action short film at the 2024 Oscars.


Films in the programme include:


The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, directed by Wes Anderson (UK) (Winner)

A beloved Roald Dahl story about a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes and then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling.


The After, directed by Misan Harriman (UK)

A powerful and affecting story that follows Dayo (Oyelowo), a Londoner who has to reconnect with himself and society after witnessing a devastating random attack in the capital.


Invincible, directed by Vincent Rene-Lortie (Canada)

Inspired by a true story, Invincible recounts the last 48 hours in the life of Marc-Antoine Bernier, a 14-year-old boy on a desperate quest for freedom.


Knight of Fortune, directed by Lasse Lykjaer Noer (Denmark)

The loss of a loved one, the grief, the risk of yellow skin, and a coffin, this is too much for Karl to face. It is much easier to fix a broken lamp. A chance encounter with a stranger will help him face his pain


Red, White and Blue, directed by Nazrin Choudhury (USA)

Rachel (Brittany Snow) is a single parent living paycheck to paycheck. When an unexpected pregnancy threatens to unravel her already precarious position, she’s forced to cross state lines in search of an abortion. As Rachel contemplates the series of events that necessitated this journey and the obstacles placed in her path, we learn a heartbreaking truth that means her life will never be the same again.

In the first Iranian vampire Western, the townspeople of Bad City - a fictionalised Iranian ghost-town that reeks of death and loneliness, are unaware they are being stalked by a lonesome vampire. Dressed in a chador moving through the shadows on skateboard, the vampire preys on underworld figures, taking the men who disrespect women, in this one of a kind feature debut.


Part of a double-bill alongside Skate Kitchen, Grit and Glide is programmed and delivered by our Forum Cinema Champions. The evening consists of live music, free pizza, a curated selection of short films and two features.

Camille, an introverted teenage skateboarder from Long Island, meets and befriends an all-girl, New York City-based skateboarding crew called Skate Kitchen.


The cast is made up of a group of real NY skaters, playing fictionalised versions of themselves. With atmospheric and hypnotic skating sequences and a laid-back authenticity, Skate Kitchen precisely captures the experience of women in male-dominated spaces and tells a story of a girl who learns the importance of camaraderie and self-discovery.
