All Rivers Spill Their Stories to the Sea (12A)

All Rivers Spill Their Stories to the Sea

When a mysterious tidemark of poisoned crabs & lobsters devastates a small North East fishing town in England, veteran fisherman Stan Rennie’s life is changed forever.

Faced with ambivalence from those in power, grief soon gives way to a turbulent quest for answers, led by the unlikeliest of rebels.

A wry, David and Goliath story, told with gallows humour and a strong local accent, about the pain and power of navigating a world which has suddenly, inexplicably changed forever.

The film will be followed by a pre-recorded Q&A with director Jeanie Finlay and fisherman Stan Rennie.

Final running time tbc.

Giant - The Play (15)

Giant - The Play

Giant, the 5-star critically acclaimed play starring John Lithgow (Killers of the Flower Moon, The Crown) as Roald Dahl, comes to the big screen. Winner of 3 Oliver Awards including Best Play and a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play (John Lithgow), the production was filmed live in London’s West End ahead of its sold-out Broadway run. The stellar cast includes Aya Cash (The Boys), Elliot Levey (Cold War) and Rachael Stirling (The Divine Mrs S).

A world-famous children’s author under threat. A battle of wills in the wake of scandal. And one chance to make amends… It’s the summer of 1983, The Witches is about to hit the shelves and Roald Dahl is making last-minute edits. But the outcry at his recent, explicitly anitsemitic article won’t die down. Across a single afternoon at his family home, and rocked by an unexpectedly explosive confrontation, Dahl is forced to choose: make a public apology or risk his name and reputation.

Inspired by real events, GIANT explores with dark humour the difference between considered opinion and dangerous rhetoric offering a complicated portrait of a fiendishly charismatic icon.

It's Nice Up North + Q&A (U)

It's Nice Up North + Q&A

A 20th anniversary screening tour of Graham Fellows’ much loved comedy documentary It’s Nice Up North starring his alter ego John Shuttleworth. The tour is being presented as a tribute to the late Martin Parr, the celebrated photographer who shot the movie, and whose distinctive eye is central to the movie’s charm and enduring appeal.

It’s Nice Up North follows the legendary comic character John Shuttleworth - on a gently absurd journey through the Shetland Islands to test the theory that the further north you go, the nicer people become. Foiled by failing light, let down by a flat car battery, and buffeted by the constant wind, John doggedly pursues his quest; asking everyone he meets the all important question; Is it nice up North?’

Graham Fellows will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A, and to discuss his on and off screen relationship with Martin Parr and how the photographer chose to adapt his legendary techniques to a film camera and crew on a remote Scottish island.

“An intriguing sociological study of a slightly off man.”

La Ceremonie

France’s master of suspense, Claude Chabrol, relishes every malevolent, icily controlled shot of this perfectly constructed thriller, right up to its terrifying, violent climax. Adapted from Ruth Rendell's classic thriller, A Judgement in Stone, Chabrol transposes it to a remote French village.

La Ceremonie has left a lasting mark on the cinematic landscape. Its influence transcends borders, shaping contemporary masterpieces like Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite.

Creates a palpable sense of unease that fully justifies the shockingly violent finale - Time Out

Lost Illusions (15)

Lost Illusions

Adapted from Honoré de Balzac’s masterpiece, Lost Illusions charts the life of ambitious romantic poet Lucien de Rubempré (Benjamin Voisin) as he ascends through the hierarchy of 19th century high society. Lost Illusions is an epic and visually sumptuous costume drama that chronicles the erosion of romanticism and idealism as Lucien is corrupted by the trappings of success and falls victim to his own hubris.

The film won seven César Awards, including Best Film and returns to the FFF Selection by audience demand as Xavier Giannoli’s latest The Rays and Shadows / Les Rayons et les Ombresmarks another critical and box office success.

Royal Ballet: Manon (2026 (TBC)

Royal Ballet: Manon (2026

In the seedy underbelly of 18th-century Paris, money is king. Nothing is sacred – even love itself can be bought for the right price. A native of this hedonistic underworld, Manon is caught between twin desires when she falls in love with the student Des Grieux. Steadfast and devoted, he offers the possibility of an honourable life. Yet, the riches promised by the world of Parisian society remain tempting...

Manon’s inner turmoil and struggle for survival lie at the devastating heart of Kenneth MacMillan’s 1974 adaptation of Abbé Prévost’s novel. In this signature work of The Royal Ballet, MacMillan’s nuanced understanding of human psychology makes for an unflinching look into the moral degradation of Manon’s Paris, while all its decadence and decay are brought to life through Jules Massenet’s score and Nicholas Georgiadis’s designs.
