Synopsis

We are delighted to be partnering with Hexham Jazz Festival with a special screening of silent film clasic, The Wild Cat (1921), with a live band performing a brilliant score over the film.

The world premiere of an exciting new jazz suite written by acclaimed virtuoso saxophonist Graeme Wilson to accompany this rarely seen cult gem of Expressionist-era German silent film from 1921. At a remote fort, an army commander awaits the arrival of a new lieutenant who is captured en route by a band of mountain dwelling bandits. The daughter of the outlaw leader soon falls in love with the young officer, setting in motion a surreal romantic farce.

Accompanied by pianist Paul Edis, bassist Paul Susans and drummer Steve Hanley,

The Time Of Golden Love is an ambitious jazz cocktail of playful improvisation and daring spontaneity mixed with a twist of melodic pathos that perfectly captures the spirit of the original film, which is still considered to be a classic of the German silent era.
