Synopsis

Screening of experimental film T Dan Smith (1987) presented by AmberSide Collective, as part of Tyne Valley Film Festival

A powerful, experimental feature film juxtaposing political drama and challenging interviews with T Dan Smith and other key figures associated with his controversial reign as Leader of Newcastle City Council in the 1960s.

Tyne Valley Film Festival is a community programmed film festival consisting of 30 screenings across 14 unique venues in the Tyne Valley.

The AmberSide Collective came together in 1968 and throughout the 1970s the group explored the North of England, its changing communities and disappearing industrial landscapes. The group has always thrived on the creative tension between a collaborative filmmaking practice and the necessarily individual vision of the photographer. In the late 1970s the group opened the Side Gallery and Side Cinema, and it continues to develop projects organically, frequently reconnecting with the people, territories and concerns of earlier work, creating a unique narrative of engagement that has been sustained for over fifty years.
