The Rotary Club of Hexham are pleased to announce that on Friday 21st June Tricia Stewart, who was the inspiration behind the revised calendar and appears as “Miss October”, will be attending the Forum Cinema to talk about not only the Calendar but to bring us up-to-date with the play, the film and now, the musical by Gary Barlow. Her talk will be followed by a screening of Calendar Girls (2003) and a post film Q&A.

Please note: with all proceeds going to charity, there are no discounts for Friends of the Forum.

It is now 20 years since the ladies of the Rylstone WI in North Yorkshire decided to launch the “Alternative WI Calendar”, ditching their usual formula of views of the surrounding area for discreet photographs of twelve of their members wearing nothing but pearls and a smile whilst revealing their all based on usual WI activities. At the time the group were trying to find a different way of raising money to replace a saggy old settee in the relatives’ room of the local hospital where the husband of one of their members was receiving treatment for leukaemia. To date, not only have they replaced the settee and refurbished the room but raised over £5 million for Leukaemia Research.

The cinema doors will open at 5.30pm and the evening will commence at 6.15pm with the talk by Tricia, who is an inspirational and motivational speaker. There will then be an opportunity to watch the film “Calendar Girls” with an outstanding cast including Helen Mirren, Julie Walters, Annette Crosbie and Celia Imrie, which will have you both laughing and crying at the same time. Following the showing of the film, there will be an opportunity to ask Tricia about their experiences and for her to sign copies of her latest book.
