The International team of the Rotary Club of Hexham are putting on a screening of the widely acclaimed film "The Kite Runner" on Friday June 8th, with the proceeds going to two excellent charities. One is Shelterbox, which provides emergency survival equipment for a family of 10 who have lost everything in a disaster situation. The other is a fund to provide electronic Braille printers for disadvantaged blind children in a school in Palestine.

The evening starts with a welcoming glass of Prosecco or soft drink from 7pm followed by the film at 8pm.

Based on the 2003 novel by Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, a well-to-do boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul who is tormented by the guilt of abandoning his friend Hassan, the son of his father's Hazara servant. The story is set against a backdrop of tumultuous events, from the fall of the monarchy in Afghanistan through the Soviet military intervention, the mass exodus of Afghan refugees to Pakistan and the United States, and the Taliban regime.
